Emergency Boiler Repairs in North London: What to Do If Your Heating Fails
No heating, no hot water, or a boiler that won't stop locking out — the safe checks to make first, and when to stop and call an emergency engineer.
A boiler failure on a cold night with children or elderly relatives in the house is an emergency, not an inconvenience. Here is exactly what to do — and what not to do — while you arrange emergency boiler repairs in North London.
Stop immediately and call if any of these apply
You can smell gas. There is a smell of burning or scorch marks on the casing. The flame is yellow or orange instead of crisp blue. Anyone in the house has unexplained headaches, dizziness or nausea. Water is pouring from the boiler.
If you smell gas: do not touch electrical switches, open the windows, turn the gas off at the meter and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, then call us.
Safe checks you can make in two minutes
Is there power to the boiler and has a fuse or RCD tripped? Is the gas on elsewhere in the house (does the hob light)? Is the pressure gauge above 1 bar? Has the programmer lost its settings after a power cut? Are the thermostat batteries flat? Any one of these accounts for a large share of "no heating" calls.
Reset once — never repeatedly
One reset is fine. If the boiler locks out again, stop. Repeated resets on an ignition or overheat fault can turn a modest boiler repair into a heat exchanger replacement.
Keeping warm and safe while you wait
Close internal doors, use electric heaters in one occupied room only, and never use a gas hob or oven for heat — it is a serious carbon monoxide risk. Run hot taps sparingly. If pipes are at risk of freezing and the system is drained, tell us when you call.
What we do when we arrive
Full safety check first, then flue gas analysis and fault diagnosis, then a fixed price before any work starts. Our vans carry the parts behind most common failures — pumps, fans, PCBs, diverter valves, pressure sensors, thermistors — so most calls are resolved on the first visit. Where a part must be ordered, we make the property safe and prioritise your return visit.
Call an emergency engineer
Our emergency heating engineers cover Barnet, Finchley, Whetstone, Muswell Hill, Highgate, Hampstead and Enfield, with typical response inside 90 minutes. If your boiler is beyond economical repair we'll say so and get you a same-day quote for a replacement rather than sell you a repair that won't last.
