Planning a Bathroom Renovation Before Christmas? Why September Is the Time to Start
Design, sign-off, ordering and fitting all take time. Start in September and your new bathroom is finished and settled well before Christmas.
Every year we take calls in early November from people hoping for a new bathroom by Christmas. Sometimes we can. Usually we cannot — not because the fitting takes long, but because everything around it does. If you want a bathroom renovation in North London finished before the holidays, September is when it starts.
The realistic timeline
Week 1–2: survey, layout options and design, including a 3D visual. Week 2–4: choices confirmed, quote signed, materials ordered. Week 4–8: lead times — bespoke vanities, stone and some brassware run four to eight weeks, and tiles can be back-ordered. Fitting: 10–15 working days for a full bathroom installation, longer for a wet room or structural changes.
Count backwards from mid-December and September is not early. It is on time.
Order the long-lead items first
The job is only as fast as its slowest item. We identify long-lead products at design stage and order them first, so tiling and second fix are never held up waiting for a single shower valve.
What to decide early
Bath or walk-in shower. Wall-hung or floor-standing. Where the waste and soil runs already sit — moving a WC in a Victorian Barnet terrace is possible but changes the price and the programme. Underfloor heating, which is much easier to include now than to retrofit later.
The bit that matters most, and never gets photographed
Tanking behind tiles and under the floor. It is the difference between a bathroom that lasts fifteen years and one that leaks into the ceiling below in three. Every Norvex bathroom is properly tanked as standard — it is not an optional extra on our quotes.
Living through it
We work to a written programme, protect floors and stairs, keep the site clean daily, and where possible sequence work so a second WC stays usable. One project manager, one point of contact, all trades in-house — no gaps where a tiler is waiting on an electrician who was never booked.
